Day 2: From Roncesvalles (Burguete) to Zubiri -

Distance 13 Kms in 4 hours and 55 minutes with elevation gain of 219 meters and 26K steps

After a good night rest and a great breakfast at the hostel, we met with Juan and Gaby to walk the second day of our journey.  Although there was not so much climbing and it was a shorter distance, we started to feel the hardship of going over more hills.  However, we were going through more small towns than the first day, which made the ride much more fun. We stopped for coffee and snacks in a small town Espinal (Aurizberri in Vasco) then on our way to Erro (Population 138) where we stopped for lunch.  Some of the most difficult trails were between Erro and Zubiri where we arrived early in the afternoon, giving us some time to shower, have a few beers and relax before going to dinner in a very nice restaurant.

The private albergue in Zubiri was located on a fourth floor of a residential building.  Juan, Gaby and I squeezed into the tiny elevator still with our backpacks on and when the door closed no one was able to reach out to the button to the fourth floor so the elevator kept going to the fifth then went down again to the ground floor lol !!!  So I had to take the stairs while Juan and Gaby made it back up on the elevator… It was one of the many awkward moments we would have on the Camino and we had a good laugh later telling the others what happened to us.
