Waldorf Astoria Hotel Brand to Arrive in Spain in 2029 with a €220 Million Investment

Higuerón Developments has announced the arrival of Hilton’s Waldorf Astoria brand in Spain, backed by a €220 million investment to transform Marbella Golf into the luxury Higuerón Marbella Golf Resort. The opening is scheduled for 2029.
The project, which was finalized in early November, was officially presented last Friday, December 12, at an event in New York. The presentation was attended by Dan Wakeling, Hilton's Vice President of Luxury EMEA; Ángeles Muñoz, the Mayor of Marbella; and Javier Rodríguez, CEO of Higuerón Developments.
According to Rodríguez, Higuerón Marbella Golf Resort aims to become a "global benchmark" in the ultra-luxury vacation segment. He added, "The arrival of the first Waldorf Astoria in Spain reinforces this commitment to excellence and consolidates Marbella as a premier destination for high-end tourism."
In addition to strengthening this Costa del Sol enclave as one of the world's most exclusive destinations, the development will position Higuerón as a leader in premium real estate projects in Spain.
Resort Features and Amenities
The future establishment—boasting privileged views of the Mediterranean and located five kilometers from Marbella's city center and 30 minutes from Malaga Airport—will feature:
* 120 rooms and suites.
* 120 branded residences designed to combine the privacy of a home with ultra-luxury hotel services, managed by Waldorf Astoria.
* Wellness & Gastronomy: The brand’s signature "Peacock Alley," a lobby bar, and a new country club including a 750 m² spa, indoor and outdoor pools, a gym, and wellness areas.
* Dining: Signature restaurants and outdoor spaces offering personalized experiences.
World-Class Design
Regarding the hotel’s design, three Pritzker Prize-winning architects will participate in a conceptual competition to define the resort's aesthetic. Meanwhile, the golf course will be reinterpreted by Robert Trent Jones Jr. with a contemporary and sustainable vision, preserving the essence of the original layout while adapting it to modern environmental and efficiency standards.
Chris Nassetta, President and CEO of Hilton, stated that this development "represents another important step in our strategy to globally expand Hilton's luxury portfolio, which currently features over 550 hotels, from the legendary Waldorf Astoria New York to Conrad Hamburg and Waldorf Astoria Osaka. I look forward to Waldorf Astoria Marbella welcoming guests in 2029, offering elegant service and unforgettable experiences for future generations."
